This Sunday we will continue our study of the city of Ephesus and the Book of Ephesians. If you haven’t watched the computer re-creation of the city of Ephesus posted on our Facebook site I encourage you to do so. During the time of Paul the city had a population of about 300,000. Considering the world population at the time was less than 300 million, Ephesus was a very large city! Its buildings, temple to Diana as well as numerous temples to other gods, bathhouses, library, outdoor theater of 25,000 seats, marble streets, and many other attractions, made Ephesus a city of great wonder and marvel. Can you imagine travelers as they approached the city of Ephesus! Most had never seen anything close to it’s size, population and beauty.
Paul spent two and a half years preaching and teaching in Ephesus. His preaching was filled with miracles, converts and controversy. Acts chapter 19 is a history of his ministry and the events in the city during Paul’s stay. It’s an amazing story! My Sunday sermon will center upon Paul’s encounter with 12 Ephesian believers who had not heard of the Holy Spirit. Paul lays his hands upon them and prays that they will receive the Holy Spirit. You might be surprised what happens. I’ll give you a hint, the same thing that happened on the Day of Pentecost!. I hope you and your family will join me Sunday at 10:00 AM. I’ll be looking for you 🙂 -Pastor Jeff Carico.
