“A Gold Star God”

      This Memorial Day weekend our nation will pay honor to the memory of those soldiers who gave their life in service of our country.  We pay respect with sincere appreciation for their service, sacrifice and commitment.  We honor and pray for their family.
       Words are inadequate when making such an expression.  What can express appreciation for such an extreme sacrifice by a soldier and their family?  We do our best to show public signs of appreciation:  we bow our head in remembrance, sing patriotic songs, pray, lay wreaths of flowers, and make national acknowledgments of their service.  All are appropriate, but none are truly sufficient.  They have paid the ultimate sacrifice.   There is no greater gift to give to your country.
        “Gold Star Families” is officially defined as “spouses, children, parents, siblings, or others whose loved ones died in service to our nation”.   We honor you this weekend.  Without you our nation would not, could not, and will not exist.  Upon your sacrifice this nation exists.  It’s that simple.
       As I began to pray and prepare for our Sunday Worship Service, it suddenly became clear to me in my mind and spirit that God is a “Gold Star God”.  He sacrificed a member of his family for our freedom.  Listen to these words:  “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life”  (John 3:16).  
      I invite you to join us this Sunday at 10:00 AM as we honor our Gold Star Families and our Gold Star God.
